The unforgiven: breaking deadlines is career arsenic

The cardinal sin when hiring a professional resume writer, is to fail to provide them with information when they need it.

We’ve had two in the last week. This seems to be an Adelaide phenomena and I don’t know why. It could be that the Adelaide Fringe and Festival of Arts take priority. It’s the reverse of the old adage, “Art for art’s sake; money for God’s sake.”

The problem is we have already done 60 minute’s work, reformatting and restructuring the client’s resume.

We have already created an idea of the template and how the resume will look.

We have already asked and sent the questions and provided the deadline.

We wait like hungry wolves, to use our specialist skills to create a product that no employer could ever ignore.

We wait and wait and wait, staring at the clock. But alas, the client has forgotten us and failed to reply.

Maybe they had better things to do. Many don’t even have the courtesy to say their reply will be late. That shows us that they’re not ready for the workforce.

Working online means that we’re invisible. But we’re not. The emails keep coming and the phone keeps ringing.

In future, I will blacklist clients who break deadlines.

Many of are clients are hungry for a job. They are desperate for that promotion.

They are our valued clientele.
