Improving the media one job at a time

Helping journalism graduates get a job

I still write journalism and opinion pieces from time to time. I worked at AAP and for AdNews. I’m always happy when I help graduate journalism students find a job, as it’s a highly competitive field.

Below is an update from a young journalism graduate’s Dad. I helped write his son’s resume.

“The job he went for after your work in writing his resume was with Bloomberg. He got into the last four applicants from 500 – after three interviews/exercises. Initially he was elated to get that far – but then became frustrated when the process took so long.

“Less than month later his lecturer from Monash recommended him for a casual position at the Herald Sun. They put him through the recruitment process and he got it. Less than two months later he was offered a cadetship and now he is working as Court reporter – hopefully a stepping stone to reporting on politics. He has done well in a tough industry for jobs – a good CV is so important.”

Michaela was an Adelaide journalism graduate. It’s very tough getting a job in journalism in Adelaide. Working in partnership with me, we created a first class resume and cover letter. Two months later, she landed a job as a reporter/producer at Radio 5AA. She is now at Nova.
