Generic ‘cut and paste’ cover letters kill job chances

Unfortunately below is another dodgy generic cover letter written by the same ‘cut and paste’ Adelaide CBD business – which actually operates out of Perth. This is one is a year old. It was written for a guy in the state’s north who wanted to get in to mining.

It’s waffle and contains no facts, no achievements, and doesn’t target the job. It’s closer to a list than a cover letter. He paid more than $140.00 for this as part of a package. NEVER, EVER send this to an employer. A cover letter must SELL the client. This rubbish does damage to the applicant’s reputation.

“I am a highly qualified and experienced professional experienced in demonstrating physical dexterity, leadership, organisational abilities and keen attention to detail. I possess numerous years of experience driving maintenance/mechanical oversight, team supervision and quality control. My expertise lies in successfully developing and implementing strategic processes; overseeing operations; conducting inspections and managing staff and work tasks to maximise productivity, efficiency and operational performance. Through my experience, I have become adept in equipment maintenance, supervision, documentation, administration and crew direction. Furthermore, my complementary talents in decision-making, time management, problem-solving and coordination are certain to render me an asset to your management team. Having worked as a Relief Leading Hand / 2IC, I understand the need for instructions and safety compliance and the corresponding ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Backed by my superior technical and mechanical talents, I can perform leadership roles and drive adherence to all safety regulations, thereby improving employee performance and reducing on-the-job injuries and incidents. In addition, my demonstrated ability to react calmly in unexpected situations, coupled with my sound decision-making skills, is certain to render me an immediate asset. Moreover, my communication and interpersonal skills enable me to build positive relationship and work well with internal and external stakeholders.”

Like the previous example, it’s generic crap. Buyer beware.
