The copy and pasters (part 2)

This is the second part of an examination of the dodgy resume writer ‘Copy and Pasters’, who infect Adelaide’s professional writing community.

To be honest, most don’t live in Adelaide but that’s another story.

Below is a real life example. The resume writer here has tried to build a career history. Note that the most important para is buried at the bottom.

The client actually generated income! That must come up to the top.

This is a position description rather than professional resume style with a list of core duties and achievements set against them.

Current-2015, Caravan Park Managers, xxxxxx

Providing expertise and understanding regarding key industry legislation and compliance requirements, including the Residential Parks Tenancies Act

Remaining professional when representing the business, ensuring to provide excellent and memorable customer service that results in repeat and referral business for the organisation

Cultivating and maintaining working relationships with key stakeholders through networking, working with colleagues and other industry professionals, and working closely with permanent residents, site licence agreements, and tourists

Showing industry proficiency to successfully work with tools, technology and software to increase productivity and potential engagement, including working closely with third party booking channels.

Handling an array of peripheral tasks within the role, including marketing and social media, payment of wages, ongoing reporting, and administrative duties as required.

Utilising industry expertise and understanding to handle an array of tasks within the role, including general maintenance, after hours phone duties, occupational health and safety, buying and ordering of stock, and running a kiosk within a caravan park setting.

Ensuring to remain educational in approach to the role in order to grow and develop as both a professional and  an individual within the workplace

Successfully increased the income of these parks by $200k within the 12 months.

It’s hard not to laugh over sentences such as, “Showing industry proficiency to successfully work with tools…”. Why they start every sentence with the transitive ‘ing’ form is baffling.

People pay $300-$400.00 for this ‘Copy and Paste’ tripe. It’s embarrassing, unprofessional and no recruiter will touch it.
