Career advice which doesn’t ‘nibble’

If you’re struggling at work, this piece of career advice might help you get ahead.

I remember when I was training to be a journalist that I got some invaluable advice from hardened old reporter.

It’s about how to manage the hard things, like making that tough phone call, sacking someone who you like and those things which put a hard, cold stone in your stomach.

First of all you have to know that what you are doing is right and necessary.

The second this is, “If you’re going to eat shit,” he wrote, “don’t nibble on it.”

Don’t put off problems for another day.

Adopt a direct strategy and don’t nibble.

It might be a mistake we’ve made or a problem we must tackle head on before it gets even bigger.

Making small changes around the edges can be harder than dealing with it in one go.

Career advice can sometimes be clichéd, delivered by well-meaning people with little experience on the job.
