Support through Career Transition Assistance (DEWR)

Career Transition Assistance (CTA) is a free program that helps people aged 45 years and over build the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to take the next step towards employment.

One of the key benefits of CTA is its personalised approach. Before starting the program, participants meet with their CTA provider to discuss their goals, employment aspirations and support needs. Providers use this information to tailor the support and training delivered throughout the course.

CTA focuses on helping participants become job-ready by building practical skills that can be applied straight away. Participants can receive support to:

  • identify existing skills and experience that can transfer to new roles or industries
  • explore local job opportunities and understand employer expectations
  • update and tailor resumes and job applications
  • improve interview skills and job search techniques
  • build confidence using everyday workplace technology.

These skills can help participants feel more confident when applying for jobs and engaging with potential employers.

CTA is primarily delivered face-to-face in small groups over 3 to 8 weeks, giving participants an opportunity to learn alongside others and share experiences.

Participants can receive support to adapt to the changing demands of the labour market, build their digital skills and develop an understanding of how artificial intelligence (AI) is used in recruitment processes and workplaces.

By the end of the program, participants will have worked with their CTA provider to develop a personalised plan outlining practical actions to help them move closer to employment.

This may include strategies to help participants promote their skills to employers, identify further training opportunities and target roles that align with their experience and career goals.
