Bad human, bad robot

Recruiters know you used ChatGPT

Recruiters can tell if you’ve use OpenAI’s ChatGPT and they don’t like it.

About 15-20per cent of applications appear to be AI-generated and a recruiter can spot a robot-written application from a mile away.

It leaves a sour taste in their mouth, and it makes them think you’re not up for the job.

It makes them think you’re unethical and trying to pull a ‘shifty’.

It signals that applicant may not know what the hell they’re talking about.

The biggest red flag is when the resume reads like a formulated template that’s been copy-pasted and has a robotic tone.

The document is full of buzz words such as ‘adept,’ ‘tech-savvy’ and ‘cutting-edge’, especially on resumes for technical roles.

Candidates list skills such as ‘excellent communicator’ or ‘team player,’ but they don’t back them up with real-life examples.

The absence of specificity, authenticity and the personal touch is another red flag.

There’s also the lack of care and editing when using AI tools, which is a problem.

Recruiters are seeing job applications come in that have the same font, parentheses or phrases such as “add numbers here” that come directly from ChatGPT.

Applicants aren’t proofing their own AI-generated documents.

If you’re missing that level of detail, it shows the employer that you’re not detail-oriented.

The resume will hit the rejected pile at the speed of light.

The question, ‘Why are you interested in this position?’ on a job application often generates the same word-for-word response through ChatGPT such as ‘insert mission statement’. It’s laughable if it wasn’t so serious.

After seeing the exact same response over and over again, it becomes clear that the candidates are all using AI and have outsourced their brain.

It’s better to have five targeted applications you’ve written yourself or with a professional writer than 100 where the recruiters can tell you’re a lazy idiot.

Recruiters want to hire a human for the unique things only humans can offer, so the application must showcase that.
